I feel your pain . this is why we now manufacture a NEW canopy with NEW 21st century raw materials . you can see it in the vendors section .
beyond replacing it with ours , this is what you can do to "salvage" it for now ...
no history lesson , but the nutsty products they used back then were crap , so in order to fix this correctly , you first will have to remove the roof .. if your willing and wanting , let me know , and I can help you further .

I was thinking about this more , and really you shouldn't need to remove the roof . but at least the rear of the headliner if there is one in it ?

If I could get away with out removing it first that would be great cause I no longer have a garage to work in. And if I had the money to buy a new top I totally would cause your only 6 hours from me hahaha.

ok -- condensed version ! First you'll need to drill a (min. depending on the size of crack)) 1/8" hole at the end of ALL the cracks , this will stop them it from progressing further. you'll need to fiberglass the inside of the roof , most likely most of the cracks have gone all the way threw . so you need to give it a good base and structure again . once that has been done a cured , you'll want to V notch all of the cracks . then you'll want to use a 2 part epoxy , specifically for fiberglass , we use 3M panel bonder #08115 . works great . you then want to finish with some plastic filler , and the seal with a good epoxy paint .
hope that helps
