i checked that trekker out. not a bad truck but interior was in pretty rough shape.drivers seat is pretty messed up and is acutally ripping out of the floor, axle seals on the front are gone, and theres some bondo goin on. the hood is bondoed a bit and a hole in the roof was filled with bondo which has now cracked and there is slight rust forming around the hole. no back seat, roll bar isn't bolted down, rear hatch has no lock. and there was a bunch of other nuts i noticed wrong with it.
the good: brought to B.C. from cali so frame is clean and body overall looks pretty dam good. Also he told me that he had the motor completely rebuilt and added an rv cam and a header. and its fuel injected which can be a nice feature
needs some work but could be a sweet truck in the end

I also talked to this guy, He quoted me $4800. He told me it was in an accident and that ICBC valued it at $7800, no comment. The guys a car salesmen, this is his own vehicle. In it's present condition I think $4800 is a little steep.

Well its still for sale. Its in Vancouver Craigslist. I wasn't actually looking for one but there it was. Curiosity got the better of me and I sure do like "unique" vehicles. He wasn't there to talk to but I gave it a good look. 1st thing is there is 2" of water sitting on the floor of the cab and moisture everywhere. The canopy is just sitting there unbolted. I'm not sure but looks like he was trying to convert it back to a truck because he's put checker plate on the bed with bolts and no way to put the canopy back on. -Front axle needs at least a seal kit rebuild. -One side window has a flimsy lexan slider. -Battery has a main "shut-off" switch to starter because I think there is a short somewhere after the 22RE swap. (Brand new battery but its dead) -Non original 1st Gen dash. The dash is identical to my 88Runner -front seats are awful and he welded them to the floor. -Can't seem to get the Transfer Case out of 4WD but might just need to be backed up to disengage. The only thing going for this thing is it does have a good frame. I wish I could have seen it running. His new price is $3800 . If he can't prove the engines rebuilt and unless I can test drive it I won't touch it. On the other hand if it drives well I might offer $1800.....I don't think that is too low ball because I don't have the space to dismantle the rear to reseal it and getting that canopy fitted back to original will definitely need to go to "Cap-It" or someplace similar. Any advice accepted. Also if someone off this board scoops it , well then it was just ment to be, no hard feelings. ham

Yup. Thats the one.
I'm going to sleep on it. The cool factor is there but in reality its not a very practical truck. Yes its a 1st gen with rear seats but only if all your friends a midgets.....and why did Winnebego put that 3" lip a the rear door, it makes it hard to pull your gear out.

your right , not real practical (for some) , but it all depends on what you want .. it's a proto type 4Runner , OLD truck that will absolutly need work , but has a history , and really ... probabally the MOST significant TOYOTA truck in Toyota's history .
and now that we have that straight .. take it for what you want , but it is what it is ..
you can spend tons of cash restoring , or you can spend tons of cash customizing .. either way .. your gonna spend money !! all depending on your "vision " of your final product .
