Does anyone have experience with cutting the back out of the cab of a standard pickup and putting it on a Trekker? I have an SR5 cab with factory sunroof, air, good interior, etc. Is there a structural difference other than the sheet metal on the back of the pickup cab? I have pulled back the upolstery from the cab joint on the Trekker and it looks do-able?? I have a lot of experience with early Broncos, I've had mine for 30 years, but the whole Toyota thing is new to me.

Intresting! This SR5 cab is on a long bed. And the only thing really wrong with it is the bed looks like a sack full of door knobs.

The frame is toast. When I fitted the new inner fender it missed where the frame mount was by about 3". Donor frame. So, I start from scratch, sand blast and paint next.

good way to do it. Before you get too far on painting the frame be sure to check out the placement of the body mounts, from what I can tell Winnebago added some of their own to support the fiberglass.
Is your donor frame from a long or short bed? Saw the mention of the cab coming from a LB. Corey (slacker) might be able to confirm this as he has a bare Trekker frame.

It's a shorty...I bought the "81Trekker and a "79 short bed for $250. I picked up a complete '83 longbed cuz I got it cheaper than I could buy a 22R and 5 speed locally. It runs pretty good. As it works out I have plenty of parts now. 3 sets of axles, 3 xfer cases, a 4 speed and a 5, etc. I'm still looking over my options. I think now I'll probably stick with the original cab. It still has the Winnebego sticker under the dash and is in pretty good (no rust)condition. It's an SR5 as well. I'll just have to swap over a few more interior parts. I want to keep it fairly stock for good MPG as well as the classic value. I see what you mean about the added body mounts. I was squirting penatrating oil on the bolts before removing the body. They look pretty straight forward to duplicate.

Well gentlemen, I finally got a computer. I used to visit this site on my lunch hour at work. I retired from my day job last november and have not had computer access since. I must say you all have been busy! I've pretty much stripped my 81 in the last months. I hope to get some pics and start a new thread soon. I'm gonna fire up the sand blaster on the "new" frame next week. I sold a few excess parts on Craigs List this week, so progress is happenin'.
