I am trying to buy new brake calipers and keep finding two different types. 1 type seems to be two piston with one piston on each side. The other is a four piston with two pistons on each side. The two piston has two large pistons and the four piston has four smaller pistons. I don't have the truck infront of me to be able to look at for a few weeks, but I'm still trying to order parts. Any insight?
Thanks guys.

the 2 piston is the 2WD and the 4 piston is for the 4WD ... these are the ones you want .
you could always do the big brake option !

after rebuilding my front end and upgrading to V-6 Calipers and LC vented Rotors I can tell you the increased stopping power is awesome. Been driving my '81 the last couple of weeks after not driving it for almost a year...It is a night and day difference, improving your brakes is one of the best investments on these old trucks...

Also, are you guys getting rid of the backing plates when you do the upgrade?

You just need to go to your local parts store , and buy V6 (89-95 pickup/4runner) front calipers .. or get them used !! landcruser front rotors will complete the swap ..
I didnt want to remove the backing plates , but you can if you want .. you can either buy the TGspacers , or just cut off the tin on the backing plates , and make your own with the originals ...
