nope .. no re-gear needed .
I'm pretty sure i'm going to do the 3.4L (5VZ-FE)
and yes .. the old engine , and cooked on gear oil was a real mess , and pain . I really hate the "cleaning" part .

will this engine bolt up to an older 5 speed transmission or are you going to have to change the bell housing or use a newer transmission altogether?

nope .. wont bolt up .. but as part of the package I also have the R150 5sp and transfer comming .. this will bolt up , but will have to build a crossmenber , and driveshaft modifications . also the new fuel tank , brake booster , and v6 calipers ..whole bunch of goodies

never even thought of the motor mounts .. i'm so busy (booking into June) not sure I want anymore , but with my "helicopter" buddies computerized plasma torch .. ya just never know ... he's already cut me some brackets for my "cantilever " suspension on my 2WD project ... NICE . what I really want is an oven , and powder coating supplies ...... Thats what i'm kinda thinkin' with the gears .. 190 HP .. and 33's .. the 4:10's should be good ... ya gotta remember , this is not a rock crawler .. the odd fishin' trip , but mostly MALLS for now . I also plan on droppin' a supercharger on it .. so 240HP .. over the original 98HP .. 23 spline might just be an option .

I have some links and such of some powder coating stuff I have been thinking of ordering .. easy peasy stuff ... all ya need is a "home oven" .. (not your regular ovan) and you can do any part that will fit in it , as long as it will get to 400* gotta get supper on , so I'll have to post it later

5VZ....man, you're really taking the luster away from my 22RE swap!! HAHA, I'm jealous, wish I would have had a 5VZ laying around instead of the 22RE.

5VZ....man, you're really taking the luster away from my 22RE swap!! HAHA, I'm jealous, wish I would have had a 5VZ laying around instead of the 22RE. ahhh no way man ... just Ive done it before .. done the 350 swap .. done the chev v6 (4.3L) even doing a supra 7M-gte engine .. cool thing about the 5VZ-fe .. is it seems no one has done it before (into a 79-83) another 1st for me ?? I think that making greaseable shackles is a great idea. Trail Gear and others want like $75+ for a set. Don't forget that you will need to slot the bushings to allow the grease a place to go...but I am sure you have that covered....with 30 years or whatever experience in Toyota trucks you seem to have run into everything ;D Yep .. I figured , I got the shackles out and all cleaned up and stuff (por-15'd ) I might just as well use mine . neighbor said i could "borrow" his lathe .. so i'm good to go .. just have to find the time now ohhh .. and bushings are not a problem
