This is my Trekker. After removing the pretzeled frame, I discovered that the floor and firewall were mangled as well. (as seen in the thread"Pickup Cab"). So This is what I'm starting with. I have a good cab to replace the damaged one. I have the frame sand blasted and painted, so far. Removal of the old cab is next.

This is my parts truck. I'll use it all but the frame and bed. My wife thinks it's a shame to take it apart. But, hey...it will be a Trekker.....I guess somebody has to kiss the frog!

Trekster, Does the frame on your parts truck have much rust? That truck looks like it's in good condition. Most of the older Toys here in VA have rusted out frames and beds and Ive seen them for sale for a few hundred bucks. Since you already have a good frame for your Treakker I think I would keep the parts truck and try to find a cheep cab.

Zuni, There are two rusted spots on the floor of the bed, easily repaired. And, there's no rust on the frame. I don't think there's a lot of problems with rusty frames in these parts. The beds are commonly worse than mine. My Trekker has no running gear, so I pretty much need a complete truck for parts. I bought the whole truck for less than I could find a complete, good running engine and trans. Long beds don't seem to be in demand as much as the shortys around here. Jim

I've pretty much stripped the interior of useable parts except the doors (Craigslist to finance further repairs). Still some useable interior to remove. Not sure if I'll use it, but can't bring myself to toss it. For those of you who've removed the back half, a question: Is it possible to remove it in one piece? I'm having to do this outside until I get the cab off. I'd like to get it in the garage ASAP cuz it's cold and wet/snowy on the ground. Paul, we'd talked about VIN's etc. some time back. The VIN and Winnebego sticker is on the dash, which I salvaged, I found a plate on the driver door post; are their any other plates or numbers on the cab section? I think I can install the dash and plate on the other cab to use the trekker registration. I have a friend at the DMV that can take care of the new frame number for me on the registration.

being your not using the cab , yes ..... sawzal works great there is and engine compartment plate as well , on the firewall , and not sure if you saw the metal serial # plate on the left front , near the windshield on top of the dash .

Duh! Should'a thought of that myself. Got the one on the dash, and the one on the inner fender is long gone.

My '83 parts truck has the tag on the firewall, but the Trekker has the passenger inner fender replaced. I think that's where the tag went. The one behind the windshield came out with the dash (as did the Winnebego sticker) so they're covered with the dash change. I want to stay with the '81 registration because 1981 or older is the cut off date to be smog exempt in this area. That's a big can of worms I can avoid! The door post one is only two rivets. I think I will be okay without the fender plate, but don't want to show up at the DMV with conflicting VINs. Thanks guys

I got the old cab off today. Slacker, the sawzall is definately the hot ticket. I was surprised at the amount of rust on the floor where the cab and bed meet. I think the new cab is a better idea than I originally thought. Next, axles and wheels under the frame.
