Does anyone have a used 5 speed transmission for sale? My son's 83 truck is starting to chatter in 3RD gear.

I tried to get by and see this truck but the guy that has it went snowboarding. We got about two foot of new snow in the mountains today so I can't really blame him. A normal snowfall around here is 2-3 inches.

Sad to say my work took me out of town for a few days and now I can't get a return call from the guy that had the truck. At that price I'm sure it's gone.

I did find a 4 speed transmission for $100.00, but my son wants the 5 speed back in his truck. He has been driving the Trekker (and enjoying it a little too much) so I don't think he's in any big hurry to fix his truck.

I ended up putting a 4 speed in my trekker...still want to find a L series 5 speed (no drive shaft or moving the crossmember work) but around my neck of the woods they go fast since guys like to put them in their buggies...

Autozone has rebuild kits w/syncros for under $200. Has anyone tried to rebuild one? I did the NP435 4 speed in my old Bronco a winter or so ago, it wasn't that bad. I had to buy some tools (pullers) and a manual, but it was still cheaper than just the freight on a rebuild from a internet vendor. I am seriously considering trying it. Intrestingly enough, when I did the NP435 I got to try the poor man's bearing press and can attest to the fact it works. It consists of putting the bearing in the oven at about 175 degrees F, and the shaft in the freezer. The bearing expands and the shaft shrinks to the point where the bearing slides over the shaft and when the temp equalizes you have a "press fit". That eliminates the need for the bearing press. But you gotta make sure you get it where you want it quickly or you're hosed! Also remember the bearing is HOT! My finger prints are legible only recently. Jim

I found a a 5 speed on craigslist for $50.00. Went to look at it and found out the guy is into Toyota's. He had a 1st Gen Toy Rock Crawler, a 87 4Runner and a ton of parts. He said he got married 6 months ago and the new wife said some of his "collection" had to go. He had about six sets of doors, but would not sell any of them. He also had a lot of small parts like starters, carbs, and generators. Not sure if he is willing to ship, but I thought I would post his phone number and ad. norfolk.craigslist.org/pts/1613280035.html1985-1995 2wd complete rear axle with leaf springs $100 obo, 1985-1995 4wd Automatic transmisson with transfer case $100 obo, 22r distributers $25, Alternators $25, 22r complete engine(-carb) needs rings but runs $50, 1979-1984 4wd 5speed transmisson $50 All prices neg, money talks (757)298-6307 Needless to say, but the 5 speed is sold.
