Made some very good headway this project last night we have the wire harness at about 98%...
Things that need to be finished (wire harness only): Oil pressure idiot light sender needs to be mounted (fuel filter needs some spacers), connect brake fluid lever indicator to V6 master cylinder, finish alternator wiring (finish pigtail, awaiting bracket before completion), finish check engine light wiring in gauge cluster, finish fuel pump hot wire (wrap & tuck)...
As of now the dash can go back in we can complete the check engine light for the gauge cluster with it all back in, the rest of the work in now under the hood... That being said we still have a laundry list to complete as far as the little things go, but the wire harness is almost complete!
I am sure Oki will post some pics tonight at least he better I didn't even leave until 1am last night...

How dare you come into my thread and steal my thunder, giving up all the details about whats left!!?? ;D Since the details are taken care of lets get to the pics. This is the mess of wires we had on the inside to begin with, a little daunting at first glance, and in this pic the main harness behind the dash had already been zip tied to try and get it under control somewhat, I swear we put zip ties on, then cut them off, then put them on, then cut them off of the same places about 600 times!! Talk about a gaggle of wires... In this one you can see the original amount of wires that were running behind the dash, and you can see that we already have some of the ones hanging on the firewall under control... Yuck! Thats a lot of wires... This was the first "stage" of getting the harness contained, the one on the left is the original that we had to cut into and splice/eliminate wires, the one on the right is the transplant from the donor truck, we'll get it all wrapped up nice like the rest soon... Ooh Ooh, look at me getting busy with the passenger kick panel area, I dont know what Boing was doing this whole time, probably over suckin on a Route44 Cranberry/Lime slush like he's on vacation or something... FINALLY, Boing decides to do some work, or at least pretend like he is working on the driver kick panel area...

Now for the good stuff... Main harness behind the dash all routed correctly and un-needed wires removed, all added wires are soldered and heat shrunk, everything taped up, looks factory and if you notice the bundle is quite a bit smaller... Here is where the harness enters the drivers side kick panel, everything nice and clean... And now the money shot! This is the passenger side kick panel area all cleaned up, you can see in a couple pics the ECU hiding up behind some of the vents, everything came together real nice, the relay position worked out well and everything that is getting tape is taped and looking good. We left certain portions untaped on purpose for troubleshooting purposes should there ever be any problems later, with the dash in EVERYTHING will be hidden, you wont be able to see anything... This is the harness under the hood, as you can see by Boings finger, its a lot smaller than original, its about as thick as his middle finger. The wires that are unwrapped still are the alternator wires, I ordered the GM bracket from Aaron on Yotatech (the link from this board) and when it gets here we'll wire up the Alt and get those wires where they belong as well... I guess I didnt get any pics of the passenger side under-hood harness, but it looks like the others, all taped up and looks like it came from the factory with it. Hopefully the next update will come soon and will cover most if not all of the stuff Boing listed in his post before!! Going to be back on the road soon, I cant wait!!

Doesn't seem to loud to me at all, however if it is to loud we can fabricate a some baffles and load them up with some sound deadening... My main concern is the fact that the tank being a carb tank doesn't have any baffles in it...
Some thing I think you (slacker & oki should worry about) out of tank pumps will burn up pretty fast if not cooled properly... I know my truck's pump starts to howl pretty bad after about half of a tank (mine is low pressure 15 psi not 40-70 psi like multi port)
I have been mulling the idea over for awhile option
A.) get a fuel cell with a foam injection and mount it in the same spot... (would work perfectly just not as elegant as I would like...)
B.) Sick another tank in the trekker, I like this idea alot and have heard that one of the 4runner (1st gen runner I think) tanks is a direct bolt in....
C.) the cheapest option (and most fun) would be to cut the bottom out of the trekker tank (not for the faint of heart, and have to take certain precautions for it to be even safe.....) and add the bowls and baffles out of a efi tank so that you can run a intank efi pump (intank is by far the best way to go...)
option B would probably be the best...
If I go the turbo route with my trekker I will not be running the carb tank at all... Turbo motors cant handle having sloshing to the point of starving...
food for thought...

I wont use that pump again .. I didnt like it .. this time I went with a new EFI tank with the baffles . BOLT IN . it's our newest " NEW product " (you can see it in my build ) .

Are you serious? You were there! We did get some more done this weekend. We installed the GM Alternator, had to go back through some of the wiring and add a diode into the alt power wiring, the computer couldnt tell when to kill power to the alt. so the truck wouldnt shut off!! (typical Toyota, cant even kill them when you try!!) We got the cooling system all hooked up, ended up putting the factory radiator back in it for now, i need to make some spacers for the mounts on the aluminum one before I can mount it, it rests against the core support and I dont like that. I dont have any pics/vids to post this time, but the Trekker is alive. We actually drove it Saturday night 117 miles for its maiden voyage and it went well. I drove it to work yesterday and today also. There are a few things that still need to be buttoned up and a few small problems that need to be fixed. Still needs... VSS Wired O2 Sensor Permanent Intake Solution Permanent Fuel Power Wire Header Installed Problems... At high rpm's (5K + ;D ) it blows one of the fuses in the fuse block we mounted. We think its because we have the ECU fused into the block and upon further research it shouldnt be. The truck started experiencing "power surges" it feels as though the e-brake is engaged for a few seconds then if you hold the throttle steady it will come back to life for a few seconds then bog back down and has a real hard time gaining any rpm's/speed. We think there might be a problem with the fuel pump/carb tank or that it may be the VSS/O2 sensor not hooked up. It is throwing a check engine light (Boing wired one into the dash) but that is expected with no O2 sensor and we are positive it is running in limp mode. Weird part is the first 100 miles we drove it there were no problems power wise (asside from being in limp mode) Overall I am happy with it and once we get the rest finished and the little bugs worked out I think it will be fine. After it is running correctly for a little bit (1,000 miles or so) I am going to order a new timing chain kit, water pump, oil pump, clutch kit, cam and cam gear. I might just order an entire rebuild kit and do the whole thing, we'll see how it goes once it is running right.

So are you done killing the bugs on this thing? CUrious how it is working out...Of course I am one to talk, mine has not driven under it's own power since mid June...

I'm a horrible father to my Trekker, it is still in the exact condition it was in at my last posting. I havent been around the board for a while, been real busy with the new project at work (not much time to surf right now) and we just moved into a new house a few weeks ago.
I know, lame excuses, I need to get on it and get it knocked out, if I quit farting my weekends away maybe I could knock out one or two things at a time and have it finished pretty soon.
I'll post when there are some more updates.
