1st thing, I love this site!
I live about 45 min east of Memphis, TN off I-40. I just bought a Trekker about 5 months ago. I saw an add in our local paper listed as 1981 Toyota 4wd Pickup for sale. So I called. They said the body was in great shape, it had a/c, and said to have only 68k original miles and a 5spd. When I went to see it, it had two or three different size tires on it and the paint was badly faded. He said "it was a homemade job... someone put a topper on it and a seat in the back". He was right... the body was straight as could be. I loved it... I've always loved the old toyota 4x4's especially the ones with the striaght axles... I had to have it. I went home and did some research and found out what it was. I never heard of a Trekker before. I didnt know what I was going to do to get it. I didn't have the money so I asked him if he would be interested in trading. He didnt say no but instead asked... what do you have in mind? I was excited! I told him that I had and old 2000 350 Honda Rancher ATV 2wd that I was wanting to get rid of and an old trailer with no floor in it, that the atv would not even fit on (I explained that to him as well). He wasn't quite sold and asked if I had any guns I might want to throw in. Just so happened I had a shotgun that I hadnt shot in over 12 years or more that I gladly threw in to close the deal. It may have been worth $125. Anyway, we made the trade and I now have the title and the Trekker sitting in my drive. My son and I kick around in it here and there. All I have done to it is put new wheels and tires on it, new plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotar, changes the oil, filter and the air filter. It already had a new battery. The brakes need service and the engines has a rough idle, but I believe that is do to some cut and plugged vacuum lines. I did vacuum and dust it and it cleaned up great! I love it. I will try to post some pictures here soon.
One question... where is the Winnebago sticker located?
I sure wish I could figure out how the vaccum system should be all put back to original.
