I've been building up an '87 4runner for years and got all the gear for an SAS a few moths ago. Today I was searching craigslist and found a 1981 trekker 4x4, all original, RUNNING, with trailgear 3 inch leaf springs (new in box, uninstalled).
I can not begin to tell you how excited I am, these are nearly impossible to find out here on the east coast (I live in DC).
I will post some pictures this weekend after I pick it up.

So, here it is. Everything is in great shape except the chassis, it's honestly about to crumble into dust. I plan on getting a nice frame and starting from scratch. There is minor surface rust here and there on the panels, but the engine bay is amazing. Even the AC compressor looks good. it has 187,000 miles and is all original. The cap and cab roof appear to be of a doner Tekker. Does anyone have any pictures of a trekker with this color pattern? I plan on sticking with the original paint scheme on this rebuild. white with grey decals.

Trekkers we're always 1 color .. The brown is not a "factory" Trekker color , so that has been repainted for sure . looks to me like a trekker back 1/2 was added . The original "truck" may have rotted away like this one is doing , ands some one may have swapped the fiberglass Factory USA Trekkers had a "dash" vin plate , by the drivers left knee , on the lower side of the dash .. have a look around the site , there are a few pictured . Looks great though , welcome to this "exclusive" club .

The truck itself is definitely an original trekker. The winnibeggo sticker is under the dashboard and matches my VIN number. Looks like the bed and cab roof were from an incredibly ugly donner trekker.

I hear ya on the rust issues . I searched for about a year for a new cab with the factory sun/moon roof and couldnt find one anywhere .. sooo I decided to completely rebuild it . I'm very glad I rebuilt it now . With all the mods I did

I think I have finally found the perfect truck to build my trekker. I am going to check it out this weekend. It is a 1980 20r 4 speed. Not exactly what I wanted, but luckily I saved the 22r engine and 5 speed tranny from the trekker I stripped down. So when the time comes, I will just rebuild that and drop that in.
Does anyone know what the gearing is like in these 4 speeds? Im guessing its a little "taller" since it has 3.90 gears as opposed to 4.10s. what is a realistic cruising speed?
Here is the guys description of the truck:
I have for sale my 1980 Toyota Hi-Lux 4x4 This truck is in good mechanical condition runs great. 1. Newer jasper engine 2008 2. Clutch 3. Clutch slave cylinder 4. Brake master cylinder 5. Larger front rotors and calipers from Marlin Crawler 6. Stainless steel braided lines in front have rear but not installed 7. LCEngineering Header 8. Flowmaster 40 series exhaust 9. No emissions required it currently has historic tags so the exhaust has no cat. 10. Tow package bumper. · Includes several spare parts to include: · Front axle with knuckles · Two Doors · Interior parts
I wouldn't hesitate to drive it across the U.S. and back. Always used sythetic motor oil since engine replacement.
