Hi all- my first post here and it's kind of a (not very) funny story.
I got an '81 Trekker in 1994 that I had for many miles and years. I put a lot of work fixing it up and nursing it along on a very tight budget while in college and dental school. Really loved that truck. Mid 2005 I was finally making OK money and decided to have an acquaintance swap in a Vortec motor, put in a lift, 35's etc. The project dragged on and on and on, but I wasn't too worried about it as I'd known this guy casually for several years, he had a professional shop (not a backyard mechanic) and I'd seen several custom projects he'd done quite a nice job on.
Well, I dropped by to pay him a visit and put some pressure on in mid 2007 or so, and found he'd sold his shop and disappeared. The new owners pled ignorance, claimed they had never seen my truck and knew nothing about it. Police were zero help. Net result was I was out my Trekker, $1600 worth of brand new rims and tires, and the $6,000 I paid the jerk. Great day.....
I gave up on my Trekker long ago, but on a whim this evening I Googled "Trekker" and found this site. Looks like there's a fair bit more interest in Trekkers now than there was "back in the day". In 2001 just about the only Trekker site out there was Wead's (I think he was in Flagstaff back then?) I think there were maybe 6 of us on his site at the time. I saw a post on here from him, nice to "see a familiar face" after all this time.
Anyway, I know it's nothing but wishful thinking, but I'm hoping maybe someone on here might know something about my lost Trekker. A few distinctive things about it: The rear seat was replaced by a heavy gauge sheet metal lock box with a CD changer, amp, and crossover unit in it. The speaker box mounted on it had the speakers ripped out. The dash panel for where the stereo was had been replaced by a stainless steel panel with 6 toggle switches below the head unit. The head unit was stolen and the stainless panel was demolished by the same jerk who stole my speakers... It had tacky gold rims with 31" BFG AT's (got 72,000 miles out of them!). It was painted with rattle can charcoal primer. The bed was coated with black silicone (what a supremely bad idea that was). Last seen in Phoenix, Az. early 2007.
I realize it almost certainly is long gone in some salvage yard, but one never knows. If anyone has any info I'd love to hear it- I'd love nothing more than to surprise my wife with it showing up in the driveway one day. She absolutely hated the thing. In the meantime I'll be following more promising pursuits, perhaps I'll go hunt flying pigs...
Thanks
Brian
